“Who lets these people in?” I wondered, amazed, as I watched the young lady at my door licking some white, fluffy carpet cleaner foam off her arm, to demonstrate how “safe” the product was.

Door to door sales is practically unheard of these days, especially living in a block of flats with a locked main door. But somehow, this carpet cleaner licker had made it past our complex security system and was now attemping to sell me a product I didn’t want partly on the basis that it was edible. Is that something we want in our carpet cleaners? Is there a market for people who want to clean a carpet and have a snack at the same time? I doubt it, and it certainly wasn’t something I was interested in buying, as I explained to the young lady shortly before she started pleading and I had to close the door in her face.
